The terrible earthquake that hit Haiti on 12 January devastated the lives of thousands of Haiti people. To help Haiti people, celebrities came together on Friday in the ‘Hope for Haiti’ telethon. The celebrities from world’s studio and screen gathered there to raise fund for the Haiti earthquake victims.
The telethon was organized by renowned Hollywood actor George Clooney. The telethon featured an extraordinary group of artists and celebrities from all over, which was telecast live by many US networks, cable channels and internet sites.
The telethon was opened by Alicia Keys in Los Angles and was hosted by George Clooney. In the opening ceremony George Clooney said, “This is a tragedy that reaches across all borders and boundaries. The Haitian people need our help. They need to know we still care.”
The telethon broadcast featured live performances from London, New York and Los Angeles. The New York show hosted by Wyclef Jean featured songs by pop legend Madonna, Wyclef Jean, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira and Sting.
Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder and Taylor Swift joined the telethon from the Los Angeles.
And London performances were opened by Coldplay followed by Beyonce and collaboration between Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z and Rihanna.
The fund collected by the event will benefit Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF, UN World Food Programme, Yele Haiti Foundation and the newly formed Clinton-Bush Haiti Foundation.
The actors who are appealing for donations and aid for Haiti includes Brad Pitt, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Clint Eastwood, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jon Stewart, Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hanks and Will Smith.
